Mayor Mark Mallory?s video proposing to improve Cincinnati?s infant mortality rate is among 20 finalists in the Bloomberg Philanthropies? Mayors Challenge that have been posted on Huffington Post.

The winner of the contest will receive $5 million, and four other entrants will earn $1 million, to benefit their cause and implement their solution.

Mallory?s proposal focuses on expanding the city?s First Steps program, which monitors expectant mothers in targeted areas and gives them access to individualized care.

According to a release from the mayor?s office, the Cincinnati Health Department partnered with University Hospital on a pilot version of the Infant Vitality Surveillance Network. Mothers participating in the program had a 32 percent lower infant mortality rate than the city at large.
