Meet Danielle Jimeno! ?A local mom of two boys and a child care professional, Danielle shared some ideas for successful toilet learning earlier this year. ?She has worked in the child care field for over 20 years in several diverse child care programs, currently with Fraser Health as the Director at A Place to Grow Childcare, the highly regarded program at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Aside from her busy professional and family life, Danielle is complementing her education in Early Childhood Education by pursuing her Bachelor?s degree of Child and Youth Care through distance learning at the University of Victoria. ?Danielle sits as a Co-Chair on theChildren the Heart of the Matter Conference?committee and also serves as a ECE Partner for the Make Children First?Early Learning Advisory Group. ?She has been involved with the research initiative entitled?Investigating Quality Early Childhood Environments?with the University of Victoria and the Ministry of Children and Family Development since 2007.
Her commitment and passion has been recognized by a nomination for the?2011 Prime Minster?s Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education.
Plus, (hockey) mom of two boys. ? Colour me impressed!
Danielle enjoys the daily genuine opportunities to?connect with children and families, and as her work within the field has evolved, so have the rewards and benefits. By becoming more involved in the Early Years community, she feels she has learned so much over the years and these experiences have allowed her the opportunity to develop as an Early Childhood Educator, advocate, and leader within within the program and throughout the community. The most frustrating aspect to the work within the field of Early Childhood for Danielle continues to be the lack of Provincial and Federal investment in our children, families and the educators working with them.
The 5 questions we always ask:
What do you love about the NQSS area? ?I believe in the Proverb ?It takes a Village to raise a child? and I have faith in the idea we all have impact on a child?s well being. It is ironic that part of our NQSS area is named Panorama Village and that we are fortunate to gather at neighbourhood hubs like our parks, back yards, alley ways and the YMCA.
Tell us one thing that always makes you smile. ?One thing that always makes me smile ? sitting on the bench at what has been coined ?The Purple Park? (Panorama Park) and looking out over the fields of Cloverdale with Mount Baker sitting in the distance with the sounds of children playing in the park and in what remains as the forest.
How do you keep sane? How do I keep sane ? am I allowed to discuss wine, professionalism and children in the same post?!
Who?s your hero? ?My heroes are my family members who have done such an exemplary job of raising their children and all those working and at home parents who take on the most important job they will ever have, being a parent.
MAC or PC? Oh, I am an Old School PC girl. The last time I tried to do an assignment I had on my girlfriends MAC, it actually brought me to tears! It may have had more to do with the fact that I left a 10 page paper till the very last second it was due and then the PC that I had at the time (which was over 10 years old) crashed but I still blame it on the MAC
